Capstone: Generation of Alternative Concepts
Why Alternatives?
For our senior capstone project, it's important to explore all areas of our design. In this unit, we explored 4 sub-functions of our project, and then created 5 possible solutions for each area. This is vital to decide what avenues to explore when developing our product, as well as what will be best for the customer.
Four Sub-FunctionsPackaging |
Solutions |
How can we package the water bubble so it is sanitary, easy to use, and still good for the environment? What possible ways can we find a solution that can incorporate all of these needs?
HydrationHow can we solve the central problem of our project - hydration? Are electrolytes possible to add, or even necessary? How can we do this while still maintaining the bubble shape? Is it chemically possible to enhance it in this way, and if so, what is there to be enhanced?
|
|
Durability
How can we make sure that the water bubbles don't easily puncture? Are there more ways we can manufacture the bubble to be more durable? Is there a chemical solution to making the shell thicker, and how can we incorporate that? How can we increase shelf life?
|
|
Taste
How can we create a delicious bubble? What can we add to it to create extra flavor? How will taste affect the product, and how can we utilize the survey results to reflect the needs in our product?

3 Concept Sketches of our Project
Reflection
This part of the project was really important so that we could brainstorm everything that was out there. As a group we worked really well together in dividing up the work, with me drawing Concept 1 and the logo and Caitlin doing Concepts 2 and 3. We also efficiently put out ideas for possible pathways for the project, and were able to find a good focus. On the other hand, we didn't do so well with staying on task, because this was a busy school week and often we found ourselves needing to work on other homework. Overall, though, I would say that we worked well together in this aspect of the project.
