Evolution Cladogram
What is it?
The project was to use a box of various hardware pieces (like screws, bolts, and bearings) and organize them into taxonomic ranks. We laid this out on a big poster and then created a justification for each one and how we organized it. Below is a picture of ours!
Terms:
Evolution: change in the heritable traits of biological populations over successive generations; give rise to diversity at every level of biological organisation, including the levels of species, individual organisms, and molecules
Speciation: the evolutionary process by which reproductively isolated biological populations evolve to become distinct species
Taxonomy: the branch of science concerned with classification, especially of organisms; systematics

The Story Behind it:A, B, C:
Evolved because of changing environment, white because of snow, grey because of gravel, orange to blend into desert The next species is metal (D) where this species became more tough and durable The next species became more round. E: became curved to more fit into cylindrical objects like tree trunks or bushes. Curving also made them smaller. F: grew smaller than E to fit into smaller places G: evolved from F by growing arms to protect themselves H: It evolved because it’s horns couldn’t let him eat many predators I: Later it evolved because it lost weight from only eating small predators J: They evolved because they were too small and couldn’t protect themselves K: later they became pointed to protect themselves even more L: small changes only because they needed to camouflage M: They became too small in order to get through small and tight places like caves N:They changes color due to the climate O: They were later small and pointed to protect themselves from larger prey P: Later then it evolved so it can be harder for predators to kill it Q: Then it became very small in order to hide itself R: It was still small at this time due to it hiding constantly S: Evolved because the nails before it (p, q, and r) were too small so it could not feed on large enough prey. T: This species then evolved because it needed to be shorter in order to hide from its predators. U: The species then changed color from T so that it could better adapt to camouflage in its surroundings. This helps it to sneak up on prey better during the daytime. V: However, a nuclear war broke out causing a worldwide “savage mode” and this species needed to adapt in order to hunt at night (lights off rn) so that it would not be brutally murdered.. during the dayyyy!!. Funny how when one sense is taken away, Another is heightened. Or is it? (Scare) lights on. W: The bottoms became flat so that it could be more of a biped. X: It changed from W being silver to gold so it could adapt to hunting during the day in its habitat. Y: It became fatter and went back to silver so that it would be a more dangerous prey. Z: The hooks are so that they can swing from the trees. AA: It lost the screw bottom so it could run on the ground more and curved out. |
Conclusion
Overall this project was really interesting. It made me thing of such a huge concept of evolution in a totally different and creative way. This really helped me to analyze the ideas behind evolution. One thing my group was really good at was setting goals. We were able to achieve all of them in order to finiah on time with our great poster. Another thing we were really good at was splitting up the work. Giving people different tasks in what they were better at not only made us really efficient but also made everyone contribute, making it the best it could be. A downfall of our group was distractions. We were all good friends, so it was easy to get distracted fro our work. Another thing was following directions. At the beginning we started to do it wrong because we weren't really sure what we were supposed to do in the project. After a lot of asking around and talking with our teacher, we were able to get focused and complete it.
