What was it?
For this project, we were given a scenario where the murder of Carelton Comet took place. We had to collect the evidence in order to make a case and convict a suspect. We did this by analyzing the fingerprints at the scene, as well as the ink of the pens, and more.
Terms:
Electrophoresis: the movement of charged particles in a fluid or gel under the influence of an electric field
Chromatography: Chromatography is the collective term for a set of laboratory techniques for the separation of mixtures. The mixture is dissolved in a fluid called the mobile phase, which carries it through a structure holding another material called the stationary phase. The various constituents of the mixture travel at different speeds, causing them to separate.
Karyotype: the number and visual appearance of the chromosomes in the cell nuclei of an organism or species.
Genotype: the genetic constitution of an individual organism. Often contrasted with phenotype.
Phenotype: the set of observable characteristics of an individual resulting from the interaction of its genotype with the environment.

Reflection
I thought that this project was really different. It wasn't your typical science project, but rather a matter of life and death. This gave us a chance to really apply all of the things we learned during our previous labs like electrophoresis and also practice some new things like chromatography. In the end, we reached a shocking conclusion and had a lot of fun doing it! One thing we could have done better was delegating tasks. We got a lot of work done on the last few days, but it was a bit difficult because as some cold/flu was going around and a few of our group members would be out on some days and we struggled a bit trying to finish our project. One thing we did well was staying on task. We worked really well together and got a lot done and ended up getting the warrant granted to us!
